Updated Portfolio

We’ve just updated our portfolio with some of the images I’ve be dying to include it still needs some tweaks here and there and there’s a few more images I want to include.

I don’t want to overload it so I think I’ll add and remove as I process more and more of the weddings from this year. July was a crazy month and August is not much calmer but should have time for a few small updates. The portfolio is now compatible with Ipod pads touch and anything else apple want to throw at us!!

Cathrina & John in May – Mayo Wedding Photography

John & Cathrina got married in Newport in May. I love shooting weddings in mayo Croagh Patrick on one side and the Ocean on the other. John and Cathrina’s day started off a bit wet but with perfect timing right on cue the ceremony ended and the sun came out. We even got some great shots at a local abbey in the sunshine.

Andrew & Laura – Blairscove – Cork wedding Photography

Andrew and Laura got married in April at Blairscove in Durrus West Cork. I have to say I really loved their venue, although its a little smaller than some of the hotels I shoot Blairscove feels really intimate but at the same time spacious. They have a great reception area outdoors and this just adds to the party atmosphere. Laura and Andrew’s church was in Kilcrohane close to Ballylickey where they now run “Mannings Emporium” together, a beautiful gourmet food shop, deli & cafe YUMMM!! I’ll be back for my wine and cheese board very soon Laura!!!

The weather was fab and Laura’s family dog made sure to get in plenty of the shots while enjoying the sun. This was a great wedding to shoot plus I got see some of West Corks finest landscape…

Summers here…so is the Mark IV

Summers here and the wedding rush is well underway…! I love to be busy and weddings are nothing but busy…(and fun)..

I just thought for other photographers I’d share my new experience with the 1D MK IV… I’ve just got this camera about 2 weeks ago and have started using it at weddings..

Its incredible, its so much faster to use and handle then the 5d MK II, you can really feel with every shutter click the sound of a high quality machine working. I’ve always loved the 5d Mark II and am a big fan of full frame. I don’t crop my images I like to crop in camera so I was worried the slightly cropped sensor on the MARK IV would inhibit me. To be honest I haven’t really noticed and I’ve actually found a new lease of life with the 16-35 range as it gives a little more reach on the crop sensor but still allows for the wide angle to be used.

The files are as clean as a whistle even at 6400 ISO which is great cos I love to try catch the moments at the speeches and find when i have a flash on board the repowering of the flash sometimes stops me shooting a sequence.

And what’s the best thing about this camera?… well no doubt its the autofocus, it zips along and tracks a subject so well… along with the speed of the frame rate this camera is probably the best camera I’ve had in my hands for weddings… ever! (and I’m a big 5d Mark II fan)

Tomorrow is the first wedding I’ll use the 1d as my main body as up to now I’ve been trying to learn it and all its custom functions… I’ll post some images later and show some examples of how the 1d Mark IV enhances my weddings!!

Billy & Lauren March – Kilkenny Wedding Photography

I had the pleasure of working with a great couple back in March I wanted to post about. Lauren is a New York girl and Billy from Kilkenny. They had their wedding in Hotel Kilkenny a gorgeous venue for a wedding. Kilkenny is a great city and it was great to get to shoot around the castle and in Kierans college which has a great history. The couple had a beautiful church on a hill and I stopped in with the lads on the way to the church to the local punt pub for a quick few images after I left the girls getting ready…. that’s where it started. I have to say I really enjoyed the day, such a natural couple who really got into the shoot…:-)

The girls passed the church in the car first…

The wind can play havoc with the veil but is great fun for shots…

Will I turn around ??

Hard to believe it was march but the weather was great… I’m a lucky photographer with the weather for some reason (jinx)…

I love colour of these doors.. they just pop…

I have to give Mackenzie credit for the shot below she set it up …

The speeches got a laugh and a tear everything you would want on a wedding day as good as this one…

And the Happy couple danced into the night…

Fiona and Ciaran – Cork Wedding Photographer

Fiona and Ciaran will be getting married in July in Fota Island in west cork nothing short of a really fab location for a wedding, so no doubt I’m looking forward to this wedding.

Back in April we met up when I was shooting a wedding in another of Cork’s fab locations Blairscove to do some engagement images. I’ll be producing a framed image for their guests to sign on the big day so I’ll post a shot of it later in the year… Hopefully I can get a shot of it all signed on the wedding day for all to see!!

In the meantime here’s some shots from the engagement shoot. Fiona and Ciaran are a real down to earth couple (who like a giggle) that was something I wanted to capture and I think I might of just got it..!!

Catherine & David – Finnstown House Hotel

Catherine and David got married in February at Finnstown house hotel a beautiful venue for a wedding. The ceremony and reception were at the hotel so logistically it was a straight forward day. We got some great shots around the grounds of the hotel and the kids at he wedding just added to the fun. Catherine and David are a really lovely couple friendly and outgoing and their son Conor made the pictures even more fun. They were lucky with the weather it was like a summers day, only a few days later the place was covered in snow… thats the Irish climate for you 4 seasons in a day!

The Guys anticipate the arrival.. no nerves here !!

The Ceremony was held in the hotel..

The end of the ceremony is always a great emotional moment for couples…

We went around the grounds after a bit of a rest to shoot some images in the evening sun…

I love getting natural smiles and emotions on camera…

I love cake toppers…. so we crowned them!

No matter what the best man said I could tell Catherine and David were a great couple!!

Pocket Wizards – Off camera Dancing..

About 2 months ago I got my new pocket wizards in order to allow me to shoot with alternative lighting at the later stages of wedding. I mostly shoot with natural light on the day but of course when it comes to the speeches and dancing you need to soup up your lighting. I don’t use direct flash and never liked that rabbit in the headlights approach. So my alternative was to employ a softbox technique and have 2 remote flashes around the room to create my own lighting at a wedding. This has worked well so far and I’m developing the technique all the time. I’ll post some new images from recent weddings soon to explain this technique more!! Another good use for this is to light the room nicely when photographing the cake and room details… more to come… !
